I did a long ride last december which lasted for 12 days. I started from Delhi. Destination was Kerala. I travelled on Honda Unicorn which is a 150cc bike.
I picked a route along the west side to Kerala. I passed through Jaipur, Ratlam (MP), Narayangaon (MH), Pune, Goa, Thrissur ( Kerala). It took 7 days including one day stay at Goa.
Return was through central India. Thrissur, Coimbatore (TN), Bangaluru, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Jhansi, Agra, Delhi. Return ride took 5 days continuous ride.
Covered a total distance of 5300 kilometers. Petrol for around 9000 rupees. Night stay cost around 5000.
Had one life threatening accident. Rolled over a divider at night in UP at 80km speed. By Gods grace I had no major injuries other than some lacerations. Bike had some problems, but drivable.
It was a lifetime risky experience. I wont advice anyone to do that. Also I could not find anything so interesting in it, that I want to do it again :-)
Aftermath: while riding alone in cold rain on a highway with such unpredictable surface, in a torn overcoat and gloves, on a bike with broken lamp and brake till next town which is 80km away, I understood that watching tv lying on a cozy bed with mom in next room is the best feeling in the world.
